From the Yasaka Shrine area to Hanno Ginza, Hanno Odori and Hirokoji, this field note follows the sokonuke yatai—open-bottom festival carts—as they gather through the day.

HOW TO READ THIS RECORD
Official time and
camera time are separate
Official times come from the 2026 programme published by the Okumusashi Hanno Tourism Association. Camera times are based on the device timestamps for the selected footage. Festival progress and movement between locations create a difference of several minutes.
This is not an organiser's record. It shows what the producer, who lives by Hirokoji, could observe on the day. Every video includes original field sound.
YASAKA / AFTERNOON
During the offering
a circle forms around the cart
The official programme places a hayashi festival-music offering by five neighbourhood groups in front of Yasaka Shrine from 15:05. In this footage, participants and visitors form a close ring around an open-bottom cart as the music continues.
GINZA STREET / GATHERING
Eight neighbourhood groups
meet on Hanno Ginza
The 16:40 gathering brings eight groups to Hanno Ginza. Visitors stand close to the carts, where calls, drums and flutes can be heard from several directions at once.
HIROKOJI / FIXED VIEWPOINT
Hirokoji waits
for the final gathering
This falls between the official 19:40 gathering on Hanno Odori and the 20:10 finale at Hirokoji. A fixed viewpoint above the street records the flow of people waiting for the carts to arrive.

Several rhythms

At the official 20:10 finale at Hirokoji and the Koma-Yokocho entrance, illuminated carts gather within a compact space. The separate rhythms and calls overlap directly below the fixed viewpoint.

Each group moves its cart differently. Calls, musical pace and the visible mix of children and younger participants also vary by neighbourhood.
The gathering is not a competition. Yet when several groups meet, differences in local energy become easier to feel than they are on an ordinary day. Future field notes will return to the same place and time to record how this changes.
